Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mike Flanagan: A Cinematic Reunion for 'The Exorcist'! (2026)

Chiwetel Ejiofor is once again collaborating with the talented filmmaker Mike Flanagan for an exciting new project: the latest installment of The Exorcist franchise. After their previous partnership on Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, Ejiofor will be joining a star-studded cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane.

This highly anticipated film is a joint effort from Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek, and Universal, and it is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2027. Filming for the movie is poised to commence soon in the vibrant backdrop of New York City.

What’s particularly intriguing about this new chapter in The Exorcist saga is that it presents a completely fresh narrative rather than acting as a sequel to the 2023 release, The Exorcist: Believer. Flanagan not only directs but also writes the script under his production company, Red Room Pictures. Additionally, Alexandra Magistro will take on an executive producer role for Red Room Pictures, while David Robinson will produce for Morgan Creek Entertainment. The team also includes Jason Blum and Ryan Turek, who will serve as producer and executive producer, respectively, bringing their expertise from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is no stranger to acclaim; he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and won a BAFTA for his remarkable performance in 12 Years a Slave. His impressive filmography features notable roles in major films such as Doctor Strange, The Martian, Children of Men, American Gangster, Inside Man, and Love Actually. More recently, he has appeared in Netflix’s The Old Guard 2, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and the superhero venture Venom: The Last Dance produced by Marvel and Sony. Looking ahead, Ejiofor will star in Paramount's adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone and A24's project, The Backrooms. Additionally, he made his directorial debut with The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which premiered on Netflix, and he followed up with Rob Peace—a project he wrote, directed, and starred in—that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and earned an NAACP Image Award nomination. His distinguished contributions to both stage and screen have garnered him accolades including an Olivier Award, nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and he was honored with a CBE for his services to drama.

Currently, Ejiofor is represented by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman.
